Stoic Philosophy in the Age of AI
A new tool shows up at work and half the team panics. Will this replace me? Am I already behind? The feed fills with takes, and your mind races ahead of the facts.
AI is mostly outside your control. You do not set the pace of the industry. You do control how you respond today.
The Stoics taught a simple split. Some things are up to us. Some are not. Your effort, your learning, your next choice sit on one side. Other people's timelines and the wider market sit on the other.
Feel the unease if it is there. Then put it to work.
Here is a simple practice:
Write one sentence naming what you cannot control about AI at work or in your field.
Write one sentence naming what you can control this week. A skill to try. A tool to learn. A way to use it that saves time for work that still needs a human.
Do one small controlled step within 48 hours. Not a life overhaul. One concrete move.
You do not have to love every new tool. You do have to meet change with a clear head and a deliberate hand.
