Stop Arguing, Start Being
Everyone has an opinion about who you should be. Family. Friends. Work. The noise is old. Marcus Aurelius put it simply a long time ago: waste no more time arguing about what a good person should be. Be one.
I felt that weight growing up. Fit the role. Meet the expectation. Do not make it awkward for anyone else. In the Navy it got louder. You either blend in, or you stand alone. Follow the rules. Keep discipline. Do not rock the boat. For years I did exactly that.
Then I hit a real choice. Keep living for what other people wanted, or start being true to myself. Choosing authenticity was hard. It took honesty, courage, and a willingness to match my actions to who I already knew I was. That choice changed the path I was on.
Marcus was not asking you to be different for show. He was asking you to be true. The next time you catch yourself performing for someone else's checklist, stop the debate in your head. Pick one small act that matches the person you mean to be. Then do it.
What expectations are you carrying that were never really yours? Stop arguing. Start being.
